Scoring System

Each RHL game shall match two teams in head-to-head competition. A player in a team’s lineup shall be awarded one point for a goal and one point for an assist scored in that player’s designated NHL playing date. A goalie shall also receive two points if he shuts out his opponent and one point if he gives up only one goal. The team with the greater number of points scored by the players in its lineup shall be the winner.

Should both teams score an equal number of points, the points for the first overtime player listed for each team shall be compared with the team whose overtime player scores the greater number of points being declared the winner. If both score the same number of points the team whose player scores the greater number of goals shall be the winner. If the teams are still tied after the first overtime players are compared, the second overtime player for each team shall be used. If still tied, the third overtime player shall be used.

If a game remains tied after the third overtime player is used, the game shall proceed to a shootout format.  The shootout winner (tiebreaker) shall be determined as follows:
     1. The team with the most goals. If still tied
     2. Matching goals scored by players in the lineup from the top down. if one center scores more goals than the other, his team wins. If neither center outscores the other, the comparison shall proceed to the next player in the lineup and continue until one player in a listed positions scores more goals than his opponent in that same lineup position. If still tied
     3. Matching assists scored by players in the lineup from the top down. If still tied
     4. Total goals scored by all players on a team’s roster during the RHL playing period. If still tied
     5. Total assists scored by all players on a team’s roster during the RHL playing period. If still tied
     6. The home team shall be declared the winner.

If a game is decided in overtime, the player who scores the winning point shall be credited with one point (goal or assist as appropriate) and all other players used in overtime shall be credited with zero points. No player shall be awarded a point for a team’s shootout win except during the playoffs, in which the player credited with the winning point shall receive credit for that point (goal or assist) and it shall be considered as having been scored in a fourth overtime.
